The Dr. Abraham P. Cano Freshman Academy is located at 1701 Lozano Street, Harlingen 78550. It opened in August 2013 to over 1,250 students. The school serves all, first-time ninth grade students in the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District, with the exception of students who choose to attend Early College High School. Students will feed into both Harlingen High School and Harlingen High School South.
This academic and technology focused campus offers all sports and fine art programs available at HHS and HHSS. Students learn through Project Based Learning, a method for curriculum that focuses on hands-on, high rigor lessons where students collaborate in order to facilitate their own learning.
The campus features a university feel with buildings designated for each of the five schools of choice: business, education, health sciences liberal arts and STEM. The campus is equipped with room layouts and furniture that promote the use of technology and collaboration.
